Chinese BBQ Beef Ribs

Chinese BBQ Beef RIbs

  • 3-4 lbs kalbi beef spareribs (see Note)
  • 1/4 c mirin or dry white wine
  • 1/4 c reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 c hoisin
  • 2 T brown sugar
  • 2 T minced garlic
  • 2 1/2 T chile garlic sauce
  • 1/2 t Chinese 5-spice
  • 3 T honey
  • 1 1/2 t sesame oil

Marinate ribs or steak overnight, then grill 1-2 min per side for the ribs or 2-3 min per side for the steak. If using steak, let rest 5 min after grilling, then slice in thin slices across the grain.

Note: Kalbi ribs can be purchased at an Asian market. They are beef spareribs that have been thinly sliced across the bones. I’ve always found them in the freezer section at the Asian Market and are usually sold 5- or 10-lb per box.
